Meet this week’s Welcome Wednesdays Tutor-Mentor, Veronica Thay! Veronica loves teaching and is studying a Bachelor of Secondary Education and Arts at Monash University.
1. What inspired or interested you about teaching?
I was inspired to teach because teaching it is all about empowering others. Learning is all about growth! It’s a journey. In other words, if one intends to learn more about a specific subject or a new skill, then it’s 100% possible with effort, practice, and resilience.
2. How will you connect with your students?
I intend to connect with my students by addressing their key interests and hobbies, and incorporating their interests into our tutoring sessions. I will also connect with my students by being a role-model and seeing them as people with full potential.
3. What subjects will you be teaching and for which grade level?
4. Why did you choose TutorBright?
I chose TutorBright because of the focus on holistic and genuine learning, fostered by a strong mentoring relationship. I find this approach to be unique and fresh. The organisation’s constructivist approach to learning matches my attitude towards education.
5. Tell us a fun/interesting fact about yourself?
In 2016, I sang at St Paul’s Cathedral, near Federation Square with Monash Uni Choral Society (MonUCS). It really enjoyed it; it was invigorating and fun!
